What Do Yajuj Majuj Eat & Drink? A Lake Drained Dry (Gog and Magog) โ€” Part 9 #Shorts

Their thirst is so great that a whole lake is left dry. But the sources give no list of dishes โ€” they give a picture of huge numbers instead.

What do Yajuj Majuj, known in English as Gog and Magog, eat and drink? It sounds like a small question. In truth, it tells us how big this people really is. In Islamic tradition, their coming out is one of the major signs before the Day of Judgement. The Qur'an speaks of them in Surah Al-Kahf, with Dhul-Qarnayn and the barrier built to hold them back. It speaks of them again in Surah Al-Anbiya, where their release is described.

A Lake Drained Dry

The best-known account of their drinking is about Lake Tiberias, also called the Sea of Galilee. A long narration in Sahih Muslim says the first of them will pass the lake and drink from it. They will keep drinking, group after group. At the end, the last of them will pass the same shore and say that there was once water there.

Think about that picture. A large lake is left dry. The point, as scholars explain it, is not a list of drinks. The point is scale. There are so many of them, and they drink so much, that even a lake is not enough for them.

What They Will Eat

Later narrations and works of history and explanation add more detail. They describe a huge number of people. They describe them spreading across the land. And they describe an appetite so great that food and water are used up on a huge scale.

Other reports in the wider tradition say they will eat what they find as they move forward. This includes crops, livestock, and supplies left behind. Again, the stress is on number. It is not that they have a special diet made only for them. It is that there are too many mouths for ordinary food and water to last.

No Full Menu in the Sources

This difference matters when the story is told again. The sources do not give a full, detailed list of dishes for Yajuj Majuj. Claims that go beyond the Qur'an and the well-known narrations should be treated with care.

What the tradition does stress is the result. People will take refuge. Supplies will be under great strain. And the event will end, in the narration, with help from Allah, not with human force.

The Real Lesson

So the drained lake is best read as a clear picture. It shows numbers and thirst that no one can miss. For believers, it is also a reminder of the limits of human power. A lake can be drained. An army can fail. But this story does not end by human strength.
